Prince Agri Products, Inc. Announces New Manufacturing and Laboratory Facilities
September 3, 2008, Quincy, IL… Prince Agri Products, Inc. breaks ground today on the construction of major new manufacturing, warehousing, and laboratory facilities located in the South Quincy Development District.
The expansion will retain 58 jobs and is expected to create 41 new jobs in the Quincy area. Prince Agri Products selected the Quincy site after a year long planning and evaluation process, including comparison with several other competitive sites in the Midwest. Critical factors in choosing Quincy included the region’s quality workforce; an attractive economic incentive package from city, county, and state governments; strategic access to river, rail, and highway transportation; and the company’s long and successful history with the community. Prince has been based in Quincy since 1960. This year, 2008, marks 150 years in business for Prince Agri Products, Inc
“Prince Agri Products is proud of our past and excited about our future growth -- with new products, new people, and strong partnerships.” said Dean Warras, President, Prince Agri Products, Inc. “Prince is building this state-of-the-art facility because of our ongoing commitment to provide cutting-edge service, quality and efficiency to our customers.”
“We’ve had a positive experience with the area’s labor force and are confident in our ability to expand because of that workforce,” said Darryl Mayton, VP of Manufacturing, Prince Agri Products, Inc. “We are making a large investment in the people and community and look forward to growing with Quincy.”
Quincy’s location on the Mississippi River was an important factor in the decision to expand here. Prince Agri Products purchases large quantities of materials by barge and Quincy is the northern most point on the river open year-round to barge traffic. The performance of the South Quincy Drainage and Levee District during the recent flood also played a role in moving the project forward. “We have seen continued support on the local, state, and federal levels to keep levee upgrades a priority,” said Mayton, “That support, along with the levee’s performance, gave us the comfort level we needed to move forward,” he added.
“This is a retention success story,” said Jim Mentesti, president of Great River Economic Development Foundation. “It’s been a pleasure working with the fine folks of Prince Agri Products over the past months and years. It’s a great day for Prince Agri Products, for its employees, for Quincy, Adams County and the entire region.”
